05/13/1999 Archived Entry: "I get e-mails"
Thanks to all of you who have written such kind notes about my new website. I’m trying to answer everyone individually, but I will also be using this diary space to respond to questions of more or less general interest, and to questions that have been asked more than once.
For instance, yesterday I wrote about rhubarb (see May 12: Rhubarb City) , which I’ve been getting many questions about, and today I’ll respond to the several people who’ve asked if foodmaven.com will have kosher information. There already is something for my kosher friends. There’s a link to the Orthodox Union’s Vebbe Rebbe -- the website that answers questions of kashruth and can tell you about available kosher products. I’m developing a list of reliable kosher restaurants that I hope I can get up shortly, and also what I call a kosher concordance to Naples At Table. That will be a list of the recipes that are kosher with no changes (about a third of the book), and of substitutions that can be made in others so that they can be prepared according to the dietary laws without a significant change in character. You might be surprised at how many there are of those, too. What with the website debuting this week, and my daily broadcasts on WOR/710 AM New York (you can connect on my Home page), and teaching two evening classes, I’ve been too busy to cook anything worth sharing today, or even go out to eat, but stick with me. I will be posting restaurant reviews and many new recipes -- as well as old favorites my radio listeners have requested repeatedly over the years. My Schedule Next week, Wednesday, May 19, at 7 p.m., I’m teaching at Classic Thyme, a wonderful (and recently redesigned) cooking school/cookware shop in Westfield, New Jersey. If any of you are in the area I know that we still have space for a few more. The class is called Cooking Happily in Napoli, and I guarantee that you will be fed well and that you will have a lot of laughs. Who could ask for anything more? If interested, please call Classic Thyme at (908) 232-5445. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get my full appearance schedule organized enough to put it in its proper place on the website, but I can tell you that I’ll be in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle sometime in early summer, and that I have a number of events coming up in the New York metro area. Please stay posted and remain patient.
