01/20/2000 Archived Entry: "I'm Back"

I’m back.

I know it was a long hiatus, but it was necessary to get my head straight about where this web-site should go.

As many of you know -- because I recently sent a note to those of you who have provided me with your e-mail address (see the blue box at the bottom of my home page if you haven’t) -- I have suspended the Feedback function of Food Maven. It was impossible to answer all the questions I got, and I am, after all, available to everyone five days a week on the radio. Please call the program. I love talking to all of you – well, almost all of you.

Not answering the e-mail should give me more time to write diary items, which I think is the heart of this site, and also more time to develop other parts of the site. My links page is long overdue for an update, for instance, and that’s in the works. New York’s Most Useful Restaurants would be a lot more useful if I added more of them. I want to be more helpful to those of you who ask for restaurant recommendations when you go to my favorite part of Italy – Rome and south – so I’ve been putting together a guide for that.

At the moment, I am excited about the re-publication of What To Cook When You Think There’s Nothing in the House To Eat. The official publication date is February 4, but it is now being shipped to the stores and it should be on the shelves any minute. Of course, you can order it from Amazon (use the link I just gave by clicking on the title in blue) or from Barnes and Noble on line. It is very unusual for a book to be re-published after it has been taken out of print. So I’m rather proud that it is happening. If you want a sample of recipes from the book, check out the page devoted to it on this site. Click on the Maven’s Cookbooks in the red band on the left and you’ll find a connection to the “What To Cook …” page. By the way, the cover has been changed, so the new edition looks different.

I’ll be back again real soon. Stay tuned.
