My friend Addie Tomei and I are planning something very special for all of you this spring. We will be taking an extremely limited group on a fantastic walking tour of New York City. If you are interested, please read the following, a recent update to the Maven Appearances section of www.thefoodmaven.com. Also check there for many new opportunities for us to meet in person in the coming months.
NEW YORK WALKING AND SHOPPING TOUR, COOKING CLASS, AND DINNER For more information: Call Savory Sojourns, (212) 691-7314 Or write to: addie@savorysojourns.com Saturday, May 4th, 10 a.m. to early evening Join me and acclaimed New York culinary tour guide Addie Tomei, owner of culinary tour company, Savory Sojourns (and, yes, mother of actress Marisa Tomei) for this very, very special day. We'll meet for a French-Italian continental breakfast at Pastis, the trendy restaurant in the Gansevoort Meat Packing District of the West Village. On our way to the Chelsea Market to do our food shopping, Addie will give us a walking tour/history lesson on this part of Manhattan. At the Chelsea Market, we'll buy the meats, produce, and Italian foods we'll need to prepare a Neapolitan feast. But before we go back to Addie's gorgeous Greenwich Village townhouse to learn and cook, we'll stop at Buon Italia to have a snack cooked by Zia Tonia (Antonia Maiuglio, whose husband owns the market) and a lesson from Arthur on Neapolitan ingredients. Then it's off to Addie's house by cab or foot (your choice), where we'll cook our dinner together. Not to worry. If you just want to be a kibbitzer and hang out in the kitchen, that's fine. However, most of you will want to slice, chop, stir, and man the stove and outdoor grill. We'll be cooking on all the burners. Our early, but I suspect long dinner will be accompanied by extraordinary wines from the Italian south. We'll dine together in Addie's grand dining room, or, if weather permits, perhaps in her Italianate garden with a fountain. Or maybe a little of both. This full day is limited to 12 people, $500 a person. (See above phone number and web address for information and reservations.)
