04/15/2002 Archived Entry: "Bargain Cooking Classes in Tuscany"
Gastronomic travel has become very popular. People not interested in power sailing, scuba diving, and sitting by a pool baking in the sun are instead standing in a kitchen baking in Tuscany -- or someplace else that sounds delicious. Italy probably has more cooking schools for travelers than any place else. You can see the scope of what’s available by going to www.shawguides.com.
Meanwhile, Douglas Hatschek, who runs Toscana Saporita with cooking teacher and Tuscan native Sandra Lotti, is offering a special price to my listeners for this spring’s week-long programs. This is the cooking school founded by Anne Bianchi, Sandra’s cousin, and author of several Italian cookbooks, including a favorite of mine, “From the Tables of Tuscan Women.” The normal price of the week-long program is $2,300 (exclusive of air fare). For you, my Food Talk listeners and www.foodmaven.com readers, the price is $1,900. That includes five half-day classes, all meals, lodging, and excursions to markets and wineries. The school is just north of Pisa, near the Tuscan coast. To find out more about the school, and to see some pictures, go to www.toscanasaporita.com. For more information, or to register, call Douglas at (212) 219-8791 The following are class dates now available: May 12th through 18th May 19th through 25th May 26th through June 1st June 2nd through 8th To send a deposit, makes checks payable and mail to: Toscana Saporita P.O.
