Happy New Year: Off to Italy
In less than an hour, I am off to Italy for the holidays and until January 10. I will be quite busy. First I will be celebrating Christmas with Cecilia and her family. Then we have a Cook at Seliano group coming. Then I am taking several days to prowl around Calabria, finding new places of gastronomic and cultural interest to visit with future groups.

Just a reminder
I will be lecturing at the Brooklyn Museum today, at 1 p.m. After my presentation, there will be a coffee and cake reception. Price of the whole thing, including a copy of Arthur Schwartz's New York City Food, which I will be happy to autograph (and is a $45 retail value) is $75. You can purchase tickets at the door.

Coffee, Tea, and Me ... Plus a Mediterranean Cruise
The whirlwind promotion tour continues: This Saturday is the most fun event I am doing before Christmas. I’ll be speaking about the history of food in New York at the Brooklyn Museum. I know I will make you laugh (a lot) and think (a little), and tell you things you didn’t know that you will be delighted to know.

This and That
I have been so busy every evening at book signings and other book promotion events that I haven’t had time to eat properly, much less cook anything. I’d like to say I’ve had some wonderful lunches, but the only one I can note is the one I cobbled together myself when Sylvia Carter came to interview me for Newsday. I made some spaghetti carbonara, and reheated some of that chartreuse Romensco cauliflower that was, until last week, available at my Greenmarket. (I did that in a covered skillet over low heat with a few cloves of smashed garlic and some olive oil.) For dessert, I happened to have a substantial hunk of Rozanne Gold’s famous wine cake.
