Paestum is really not hard to get to. It is about 30 minutes south
of the Amalfi Coast. Here are some possibilities:
1) You can fly directly to Naples, from May 12 to November 12 on Eurofly USA. Or, you can fly to either Milan, Venice or Rome (or even
Paris, London, Frankfort, Zurich, or Amsterdam), then connect to Naples.
We can send a car for you to the Naples airport for a cost of 150 euro per car. If you stay overnight or a few days in Naples, the
train is the easiest and most efficient way to get to Paestum
(see the next possibility.)
2) You can fly directly to Rome, where you can either stay
overnight or not. (If I were you, I would stay at least one night,
then proceed with the trip, but to each his own.) There is a train
from the Rome airport that takes you into the Rome train station,
where you can connect to a train for either Capaccio or Agropoli. These are the closest stops to Paestum. There is no charge to be picked up in Capaccio or Agrupoli. Which
train will be most convenient for you to take will probably depend
on your personal schedule. For more information and up-to-the-minute
train schedules, please refer to the Italian train system web site,
www.trenitalia.com.
3) We can pick you up at the Rome airport, which is a
3-hour drive to Paestum. However, the cost is 350 euro for a van that seats six or seven.
This means we would have to coordinate the flights of six people
so everyone arrives (more or less) at the same time. This could
be difficult. If one couple, or some singles, or, for instance,
two couples traveling together are willing to foot the whole
bill, thats fine with us.
4) Driving is always a possibility. I have many times
rented a car at the Rome airport and driven to Naples about 3
hours via the super-strada, the autostrada.
There are some wonderful cultural sights to see along the way.
To name just two: There is Montecassino, the monastery of Saint
Benedict, which is right off the road, as is, in Caserta, the
Borbone palace and gardens that vie in grandeur with Versailles.
Caserta is also famous for silk mills that manufacture for Scalamandre
and other high-end fabric houses, and there are discount/close-out
stores attached to the silk factories.
There is a Hertz station in Salerno , and upon request when
you rent your car, they will usually pick up your car at Seliano.
(You will not need transportation while you are with us in Paestum.)
